Media language

1) How are the cover lines written to make the audience want to buy the magazine?

-They use lots of name checks so that people interested in the celebs will buy the magazine
-The language used is very indirect and uses an enigma so the reader wants to read the rest of the magazine to find out

2) What are the connotations of the Heat colour scheme on this particular front cover?

The colours a pink, yellow and red stand out which is important considering most people will only glance at the cover and decide weather they want to buy it or not, the pink also connotes how the magazine is targeted to women 

3) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. paparazzi images or aspects of mise-en-scene such props, costume, make-up, body position, facial expression etc.)

-They use paparazzi pictures to represent how the stories inside and gossip is not fake and shows the real true side of the celebrity
-The pictures show the celebrities in normal clothes that people would wear everyday rather than the glamorous and expensive clothes they would usually be wearing to again show that the magazine shows the real and unseen parts of the celebrities lives
-The women are not wearing makeup and look distressed which again emphasises that the magazine is showing the real part of their lives that they were not suppose to see

4) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Heat? List at least three differences and explain the effect on audiences.

-on tatler there is only one central image whereas on heat there is many since heat want to attract as many people as possible but tatler is targeting a specific niche group of people
-on heat the pictures are paparazzi pictures of celebrities looking normal or bad because they want the audience to know quickly that the magazine shows them the real true side of their lives whereas on the cover of tatler Emma has a photoshoot on her private grounds to show her elegance and class which the readers would see as relatable
-on tatler the title is written in serif to communicate class and the cover lines in sans serif so show modernity and how the news is the latest, heat also does this but they specifically write the word posh in serif almost mocking magazines like tatler

presented like normal people which challenges the stereotype that celebrities are perfect all the time

The women on the cover are not wearing makeup and are from paparazzi pictures which are meant to be showing the celebrities as their worst which could be sending out the message that women can only look nice with makeup
On the front cover it talks about relationships and gossip which dehumanises them and implies that women only talk about or are interested in gossip and drama
In the picture of harry and Meghan, Meghan is behind harry implying that she's inferior to them 

4) How do Heat and Tatler represent social class? What different social classes can you find in the features and celebrities on the cover? (E.g. middle/upper class / working class)

they both feature upper class celebrities on their covers however tatler presents them as classy and elegant way and heat shows them in their everyday lives

The cover lines cause the readers to have questions which encourages them to read on

2) What are paparazzi images and why are they crucial to the front cover of Heat? 

paparazzi images are images taken by photographers who follow celebrities trying to get a picture that they can sell to news companies and are used in heat to create the impression that the gossip in the magazine is not staged but it taken when the celebrities and not trying to act a certain way for cameras

3) How does the front cover juxtapose text and images to create contrast and narrative on the front cover of Heat?

4) What do these two magazines suggest about representations of social class in the British media?

Heat is aimed at low brow people and expect them to be interested in relationship drama and gossip of mainstream celebrities whereas tatler is aimed at high brow people who are highly educated and can understand the politics in their magazine but still talks about drama and gossip but in a classier way and about politicians, Mps, Royals and other important people
