At the time it was probably aimed at men but now it has changed to both men and women 

2) What audience pleasures are offered by Doctor Who - An Unearthly Child? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.

Personal Identity: Susan represents the typical teenager at the time which the audience may like and want to mimic 

Personal Relationships: The audience might feel connected to Susan and want to find out more about her past

Diversion (Escapism): The audience are entertained and distracted from their normal lives

Surveillance (Information / Facts): The show talks about history a lot

3) What additional Uses and Gratifications would this episode provide to a modern 2020 audience?

Surveillance: It would provide and insight to what life was like in the 60s 

4) Thinking of the 3 Vs audience pleasures (Visceral, Vicarious and Voyeuristic pleasures), which of these can be applied to An Unearthly Child?

Visceral: The audience want to know what happens next as the show is left on a cliff-hanger and there are many suspenseful moments in the episode
Vicarious: The audience get to experience time travel through the characters

Not much choice as there was only two channels in the UK the BBC and ITV

2) How does An Unearthly Child reflect the level of technology in the TV industry in 1963?

Now the effects and editing of the show seems very fake and unrealistic but at the time it was ground breaking

3) Why is Doctor Who such an important franchise for the BBC? 

Its one of the most iconic shows they've made and generates the most income

4) What other programmes/spin-offs are part of the wider Doctor Who franchise?

     - K9
     -Torchwood
     - Class 
     - Sarah Jane Adventures


5) Why does the Doctor Who franchise have so much merchandise available? Give examples. 

Because it was so popular and people of many different ages watch it
posters, clothing, games
